Home Tour - Debarati & Munish - Part 1

Yes, the first ever home tour on my blog is here and I am very excited! Today let us peek to into my best friend's home at Chandigarh *Smiles*. Dr Debarati by profession is a scientist at DRDO. She is a multi talented person and an excellent photographer. Over to Debu now...

Our home is a corner flat with three open spaces which makes it extremely well-lit (good in winters, bad in summers) and airy. Last year we finally bought this apartment. after years of college hostels, transit messes and rented houses, it feels worthwhile to have a place to call our own and put our signature on!

Both of us are pretty eclectic when it comes to taste. I have not followed any theme or style in decorating my home. It has been based on the way I like to see my home, keeps changing too. But I like tribal handicrafts and décor items so maybe there is an underlying theme. Most of my stuff is from different regions of the country.

I chose rattan furniture in drawing room  because they look austere and at the same time give a classy yet comfortable feel to the place. The crotchet covers on the sofa arms and backs were made by mum, hence free of cost *Smiles*

Textured wall adorned by a single wonderful framed photo of Swami Vivekananda that says “You are the creator of your destiny”. I feel that the impact of the photo and the words on this wall is more than a thousand adornments. This wall, sort of sums up my whole outlook.

Reading Nook -Small easy-chair with a soft rug in one corner where we spend some alone time with books. Old Tangkha on the wall (from Ladakh Cottage Industries Emporium, Leh). 

 The windows of the master bed-room face east ,  I get light throughout the day. The bed itself is a low height platform bed with severe lines and no embellishment (designed by yours truly).

The Living Wall in Our Kitchen

As the utility wall was broken to make the kitchen larger,( Kitchen make-over, a story for another post *Smiles*) I had a portion of wall on which I did not want cabinets on.

I wanted this wall to be a sort of living wall, that can be easily changed based on my mood and still did not want a decal/ posters/ white board.

I had a couple of meters of upholstery cloth after a foot stool make-over. One fine morning, I rushed to my local photo framing guy, to have this cloth stretched on a board & framed. Came back with two glass framed upholstery with black frame.- a  bigger frame for living wall &  another smaller one for my weekly meal plan!! a marker was brought out & artist hubby was pleaded to draw Calvin & Hobbes. Though this is not his favorite form, he did it..!

There it was ready.

A floating shelf from FabIndia, a marble mortar from my paternal grand mom, assorted jars from my collection, Ivy in a wine bottle, potted plants & the up-cycled black chalk board bottle from Second To None market completed the look! Calvin & Hobbes are here for a season at least

Store Tour - The Boutique, Mysore

One Saturday, early this month, we woke up & thought we will make a short trip to Mysore. The bags were packed within next 10 minutes, Babies  & their grand mom were huddled in to the car & we were on the way to Mysore. *smiles*

Mysore is a place, my folks love even after N visits. That is the charm, the city holds for us. I specially was very excited to go to Mysore, after reading a post from Anu of fleeting glimpse.

We reached Mysore by noon & checked into the best suite our budget allowed! Big baby was excited with 2 luxury bath suites and was planning to spend at least half of the weekend in water *Grin*

After customary temple visit for the grand mom, hubby & me dashed to "The Boutique" at Ginger Hotel.. This little shop is a treasure trove of curios from all over India & Tibet. Once in front of the store, I was like a child in candy shop!

Here are the eye candies specially for you from "The Boutique"

The owner GV Rao is a wonderful & knowledgeable person, who knows the stories behind each of his curio. After spending considerable years in corporate world, he moved to live in Sathya Sai Baba ashram. He worked there for few years in different roles including that of a gardener. Along with his daughter, he moved to Mysore  few years back and started "The Boutique"  in collaboration with Ginger hotels. He  also has an art gallery "Art @ Ginger", which provides a platform for upcoming artists as well.

These are things sitting pretty at our home now from "The Boutique", a planting bowl & a prayer scroll with incense burner (nearly 80 years old *Smiles*). though wish I could  have bought lot more *Sigh*

GV Roa can also source for your specific requirement. "The Boutique" is a must-visit  in case you visit Mysore!

Here I Start...

Hello..

Thank you for dropping by.

After so many months of thinking & some more thinking here I start my blog. This blog is to record my love for colors, decors,sunshine, homes, spaces and many of such. Here is to the good start. 

I would like to start with my sun-lit terrace (a really tiny one...). I love the sunlight on terracotta wall...

I am yet to work on header & layouts. All suggestions are welcome.
